If this is your first time in Kearney, you may not know that this small town was once home to someone famous in American lore. Born in a small cabin in Kearney, Jesse James went on to be an American outlaw and bank and train robber. While you’re in our small town, you can visit the cabin where he was born and take a tour where you’ll learn more about his life. Each year on the third weekend in September, our town celebrates this notorious outlaw with a festival. If you’re looking for just the thing to take home with you, make sure you stop in to peruse the Antiques at Nelson House. A favorite of locals and visitors alike is a meal from the Kearbey Culinary Academy where you pick up a chef-cooked meal to go.
